Interpretation
-
- Silty clay used to cap the urn presumably to prevent the contents spilling out when it was inverted. There was a significant change in the firmness of the compaction when the pot was excavated indicating that the cap was packed down and then deliberately left to dry before inversion

- moderate occurence of small sub-angular stones, and occasional small subrounded stone. Plus, occasional cremated bone, which may have come from surrounding soil as it is at the interface between natural and cap
