Pretttttyyyy! Another piece of worked flint – there’s a bulb of percussion, and worked edges. Sadly, this came out of some medieval rubble, so it’s no use to us at all – but it’s still a nice find!

LA15 KeyA big chunk key needs a big chunky door… we wonder what it unlocks? Could this be the key to Black Shuck’s doghouse? Or is it the key to the abbey?

Find - Bead 20-07-14

A tiny jet black bead! It’s sub-spherical, with a centrally drilled hole, ends that are slightly flat and you can clearly see finishing lines from turning on a lathe. Probably dates to the medieval period 1250 – 1500 AD. Although it’s slightly different in size and weight to the other one, they could be part of the same necklace… or rosary? Fancy!

#Find - Day 11, Season 2 - Earspoon

An incomplete cast copper alloy spoon that could be an ear scoop, hoof or medical instrument, probably from a chatelaine set. Could be early Medieval in date 200 to 700AD, but… a 14th to 16th century date is more probable.

#FIND - Button

Pretty! At least, it will be once it’s cleaned up. This beaut is made of gold wrapped around thread wrapped around a wire lattice. It was delicate work to make and will be delicate work to conserve.

LA7_7818

A rolled strip of lead which has been deliberately folded in three and a half turns. It looks like a Roman curse tablet, or a medieval net sinker. To stay on the safe side, we’ll leave it to the lab to find out!
