Interpretation

    • COPPER ALLOY Colour - Dark grey with patches of green and red-brown. Shape - circular disc. OBVERSE Central equal length four armed cross, surrounded by a circle of raised dots. Lettering encircling the inner circle of dots. Letters in turn encircled by raised dots. REVERSE Central equal length four armed cross, surrounded by a circle of raised dots. Lettering encircling the inner circle of dots. Letters in turn encircled by raised dots. Design on reverse is not centralised. COIN is identified as styca (sceat) from second reign of Aethlred II (844-849) struck by the moneyer Eardwulf (name on reverse). Weight = 1.09g Dimensions = 13.2 x 13.2 x 1.7mm
